From an early age, Roy's life has been centered around playing piano, singing, arranging, and producing gospel music. That early training and experience, along with his active participation in the church's music ministry put him on a path that would culminate in over 40 years of music ministry. From leading choral groups, to joining with many quartets, Roy is no stranger to gospel music.
So it comes as no surprise that he has now brought together a group of seasoned artists to form The Classic 4. And true to the name, Roy is a classic. The gift of music that he's been given, coupled with a clear calling to use that gift for the glory of God, has served as the impetus for a lifelong love of Gospel music. As an integral part of this group, he brings not only his musical talents and gifts, but also an unmistakable sweet spirit blended with a boundless sense of humor. Singing the baritone part, his smooth, strong voice provides the solid foundation that holds the harmony together.
If you've never listened and heard the passion he brings to a song, or you haven't experienced his incredible gift for tickling the ivories, then be prepared for a blessing. The man before you is a reflection of a heart that has been softened through the years. His contribution to The Classic 4 is distinctively matchless.
Joe Fowler was born and raised in Asheville, NC. There he met and married his lovely wife Marcia. They have 3 sons; Tim, Joey and Brad. They have been blessed with 6 grandsons.
He began singing bass in local groups in the Asheville area and then he formed his own group called The Southerners consisting of Joe Wood, Charlie Lowe, Jerry Wilson and Joe. Later he sang with Mike Cathy and the Resurrection Singers which lead to The Gerald Payne Family where he met and sang with Arthur Rice for a number of years.
Eldridge Fox went to school with his brother Jack, so he knew all The Kingsmen and has been friends with several of them through the years.
Squire Parsons formed a group called Redeemed which consisted of Squire, Joe, Tim Surrett and Ernie Haas. After Tim and Ernie left Redeemed they would be joined by Arthur Rice and Ernie Phillips. He was with Squire for about 7 years.
After that he spent 15 years at The Smoky Mountain Jubilee in Pigeon Forge, TN singing bass in the Jubilee Quartet. He has also done some fill in work with the Palmetto State Quartet.
Joe is now honored to be the bass singer for The Classic 4, which consists of Roy Bray, Donny Lane, and Brock Ashton.
The earliest memory of Southern Gospel Music for Brock Ashton was standing in the living room at the age of two, singing "Oh Happy Day" with his mom playing the piano.
As a young child, he attended the All Night Gospel
Singings in Bonifay, Florida with his grandparents.
He grew up listening to groups such as, The Florida Boys, The Dixie Echoes, The Kingsmen, Gold City, and countless others.
Throughout his teenage years he was very involved in his church youth and adult choir. He has also traveled and sang at many churches all over the Southeastern U.S.
Brock moved to Nashville,TN in 1996 to attend Belmont University School of Music. During this time, he began singing in the Christ Church Choir. He has participated in live video recordings with Sawyer Brown, Wynona Judd, and the Air Force Band. He has done session work for Dottie Rambo and several other groups. He later acquired a degree in Music Business from Middle Tenneseee State University.
He is excited to begin this new chapter in his musical career. Singing tenor with The Classic 4. Utilizing his talents as a willing vessel, for God's Glory.
Dempsey Howard
Originally from Eastern NC, he calls Nashville TN his home for the past 30 years. He is a Licensed and Ordained Minister and when not on the road with Classic 4 he can be found on Sunday Mornings in his home church ministering with his family.
Playing bass since the age of 15 years old, his style is one that people seem to enjoy as it is simplistic and not over bearing.
He has played with such groups as The Bobby Howard Singers, The Singing Goffs, Sego Brothers & Naomi, and The Telestials. He has also sang with The Skyliners, Encouragers and The Countrymen. In 2000 he had a song that gained great popularity off his first solo CD entitled Restored, as written by good friend Gary S. Paxton.
Today when not out with Classic 4, or in his home church, he is the editor/owner of Southern Gospel Magazine.
You will truely enjoy the blended sounds of the piano and bass together when you hear the Classic 4 in concert!
